About the event

This self guided workshops is for neighbourhoods that are looking to grow more connected and work on a shared project together. The final outcome is the design and installation of a custom Neighbour Hub. Equally important as the physical creation, is each neighbourhood’s process to get to it. We at Neighbour Lab encourage a process that allows communities to explore the unique considerations of emergency preparedness in every neighbourhood, and to share your skills and resources in new ways. In the case of an emergency or natural disaster, these community connections will have the greatest impact on a resilient recovery.

After the workshop, neighbourhood teams will be emailed a synthesis that outlines the specific details of the new Neighbour Hub. It will include a location, design and installation instructions. Providing the choice to “opt out” if out of our delivery range a community or purchase prefabricated parts from Neighbour Lab.

The format of this workshop is partially online and partially analogue. Each participant will need access to a smartphone or tablet or laptop to participate. We recommend appointing one neighbourhood champion to host the self-guided workshop. The material is easy to follow as our online course walks you through every aspect from planning the workshop date and time to applying for build permits.

Building thriving neighbourhoods comes with deepening our respect and awareness for the rich histories of the Indigenous peoples that have, and continue to steward these lands. We are grateful to work alongside communities to deepen our sense of belonging and stewardship within the communities we work.
